Drake Gets a D+
Posted on 20. Aug, 2010 by Karri Wells.
The image below can be found on Drake University’s website. I’m embarrassed :(
In what world is this a good way to market an academic institution?
Update: Listen to Drake University’s Tom Delahunt talk about the marketing campaign on Iowa Public Radio
Also, read the email that was sent to Drake faculty and students to explain the Drake Advantage campaign
Should a good marketing campaign need an explanation? Does Delahunt’s explanation sell you on the concept?

Posted on 24. Mar, 2009 by Karri Wells.
You probably already get social media, and see its value, and think it’s really nifty cool. But if you can’t articulate the benefits and the return on the effort, and several other little details to the folks upstairs, it’s going to be hard to get your ideas moved from “wouldn’t this be great?” to “let’s assign a project manager and get started.”

Twitter Ranked Third Most Popular Social Network
Posted on 10. Feb, 2009 by Karri Wells.
Here are some interesting statistics on the top 25 social media sites. Twitter has climbed it’s way from #22 in monthly visits to #3, securing a spot behind MySpace. Many people access Twitter though desktop or mobile applications that don’t require physically visiting twitter.com, so I’m wondering how that is factored in?

This innovative advertising experience is blowing my mind. I’m so awestruck I can barely type, as my brain is exploding thinking of all of the possibilities. Imagine advertising integrated into a video, but it’s not obtrusive.

Facebook Keeps on Truckin’
Posted on 23. Jan, 2009 by admin.
By saying “everyone and their dog” is on Facebook is fairly accurate. Facebook is now twice the size of MySpace.
In November 2008 Facebook drew 200 million unique worldwide visitors; more than 1 in 5 people who accessed the Internet that month visited the site. When sites are that big growth generally stagnates, but in Facebook’s case it’s still skyrocketing. In December, 222 million people visited the site says newly released Comscore stats, a 10.8% month over month growth rate. 22% of the total Internet audience went to Facebook in December.
I still remember my college days when Facebook was limited to people with college or university email addresses. Look how far we’ve come.
